FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Here we answer some of the most common questions about the Waterford Yacht Club. For further information, contact one of the club officers or email us at info@waterfordyc.com! |
How did the Waterford Yacht Club get started? The WYC was formed in 1999 by a group of charter members led by Bob Trask and Lewis Cade who wanted to create a much more active club at Waterford than existed with WHYC, which had few social activities and no boating programs. About 75 % of the members own sailboats, the other 25 % are powerboaters. All events are open to both types of yachtsmen. |
Is Waterford Yacht Club a real yacht club? Yes, WYC is a real yacht club sanctioned by the Yacht Clubs of America. One difference from some other clubs is that the club does not own the Waterford Harbor facilities and uses them with the kind permission of the owners. Your WYC membership will allow you reciprocal membership (no charge privileges, though) at all YCA clubs which include most of the prestigious clubs in the US. |
If I join, can I use the pool and clubhouse facilities at Waterford? Since WYC members must either have a slip or a home (or both) at Waterford Harbor, they have the rights to use the facilities from this fact of ownership or slip lease, not from the fact that they are members of WYC. Not owning or having to maintain the yacht club facilities is why the initiation fees and dues are so low. |
What does it cost to join? Currently, initiation fees are $100 and annual dues are $125. Membership is renewed every January. For more information about joining, click here. |
If I was once a member and let my membership lapse because I moved away, do I have to pay the initiation fee again? NO, Once you've Paid an Initiation Fee, even if you Leave the club and rejoin, you will not be charged for initiation again. |
Are there fees to attend the club events? The policy of the Club is to subsidize club events to the extent allocated by the board of directors. Check with the club secretary for details on a specific event. How do I join? Pick up an application at the marina office or download an application from our website, and mail it along with the initiation fee and dues to the club mailbox. |
