OFFICERS

Our Club Officers are the driving force behind the Club.  WYC is always looking for enthusiastic people who want to become Directors and Officers.

Officers for 2007 and Supporting Cast....

Commodore:   Dan Fuller

Dan was introduced to sailing by a friend in middle school who had a Sunfish that could be towed down to the marina behind a 10 speed bike. They would spend many summer days cruising down the lazy San Jacinto River while loud ski boats would speed by rocking the tiny two man boat.

Dan met his lovely wife of 27 years in his dad's church while attending University of Houston. Today Dan and Freddie own “Call me the Breeze,” a 34’ Hunter, and are two of the original charter members of Waterford Yacht Club.  They both have served on committees with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for over 15 years. Dan has served on the Waterford board as Rear Commodore, Director and Webmaster. Their only daughter Danya is attending law school at South Texas School of law and will graduate May of 2007. Dan currently works for Paxar Global Supply Chain Solutions as a Major Accounts Manager. When not on his boat, Dan enjoys playing his guitar with his brother and the rest of the band on Sundays at First Baptist Church Heights.

Along with his sailing experience Dan holds both a commercial helicopter and private fixed wing ratings. Dan has crewed on a couple of Harvest Moon regattas and has logged many hours on Galveston Bay doing what most of us love doing best. Setting the sails for a nice quite relaxing ride while gliding over the bay swells sipping on a cold beverage while listening to Jimmy Buffet! The Go fast boats still race by now and then and rock the sailboats in the Kemah channel. Some things just never seem to change!

Vice Commodore:  Terry Swonke

Rear Commodore: Sandy Records

I grew up in New England in a small town, but always enjoyed going to the ocean, even if it was too cold to get in. When I joined the Air Force and ended up in Florida, I met a lot of new friends that enjoyed sailing and became involved in the sailing community at Tyndall Air Force Base. Rus and I have enjoyed boating together since we met in Panama City, Florida in 1985. We were married onboard a 33ft sailboat in 1987 in Florida, with all our friends joining in the festivities. Rus and I have enjoyed many sailing vacations to the BVI, Saint Lucia, and New England. We have owned several boats, with our newest addition being a 42 ft. PT Trawler, Voyager II. Our sons, Ryan and Morgan, have been seen often at club activities and enjoy having their friends aboard the boat to swim at Redfish Island. I have been involved in the club since 2000, when I served on the board for 4 years as Secretary and Treasurer. Now I am looking forward to serving the club in a new capacity as the Rear Commodore and will be setting up some great educational seminars. I hope that you will let me know your suggestions and comments for new seminars or specific ones that you feel we should continue on a yearly basis. Looking forward to seeing all of you at the 2007 seminars.

Fleet Captain:   Tom Arnott

Social Director:  Kelly Railean

I have always loved the water and boating. I grew up in Michigan just minutes from Lake Huron and I spent a lot of time fishing and water skiing with my Father. I caught the sailing bug in 1999 when some friends invited my husband and me to bareboat with them in the BVI. That was our first sailing experience and we were hooked! Soon after, Matt and I began taking sailing lessons. We bought “HeadHunter”, our Hunter 29.5 in 2001. Since then, I have enjoyed sailing here in the Galveston Bay, brought the boat back from Port Arthur via the ICW, and chartered several times in the BVI and Bahamas. I am excited to be WYC’s Social Director, and I look forward to working hard and
throwing great parties! Most importantly, I believe this will be a great opportunity for me to meet new people, make new friends, and learn more about sailing & boating.

Treasurer:  Linda Wiper

Secretary:  Era Lee Caldwell

Era Lee moved from Southlake, Texas (DFW area) to Houston in April 2004 as a result of a job opportunity for her husband, Harry. They found themselves drawn to the water and bought their home in Seabrook Island in July 2005.

While living in Southlake, Era Lee was active in many non-profit organizations, including serving as president of the Greater Southlake Womens Society.  Because of her participation in so many worthwhile events, she was voted Woman of the Year of the Pioneer District of the Texas Federation of Womens Clubs.  Era Lee chaired a successful city wide effort to allow wine sales in the City of Southlake, bringing new businesses and more tax revenue into the city.  As a result of this, she was named The Southlake Chambers Citizen of the Year in 2001.

Since arriving on the scene in Seabrook, Era Lee has continued her tradition of community involvement.  She now serves as Secretary of the Bay Area Welcome Neighbors Club, Publicist for the Mystic Krewe Du Carnaval, and now Secretary of the Waterford Yacht Club.

Having no past experience in boating, Era Lee and Harry both became ASA 101 certified in May of 2006 through SailTime and have enjoyed many hours of sailing their 36 foot Hunter Sailing Yacht, the Summer Wind.  They plan on continuing their sailing education, achieving Captain’s level, and look forward to visiting distant ports of call such as the BVI’s.

Past 2005 Commodore:  Julie Gibb

Julie started sailing as a teenager on Clear Lake and Galveston Bay with the Sea Scouts. Sailing with this organization took her cruising in the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, and across the Gulf. When she & Colin married, they raced their J22, Thumper, with GBCA and the Clear Lake Racing Association.

Now she enjoys cruising and offshore fishing aboard the M/V Julie Ann II. “Colin & I’ve had some great cruising on the ICW and offshore, from Lake Arthur, L.A. to Port Aransas. We hope to retire early and begin extended cruising.”

When not boating, she is an accountant for Landry’s Restaurants, Inc. and offices at the Kemah Boardwalk.

As Commodore, she hopes every WYC member has the opportunity to experience the peace and spirituality of a sunrise an anchor in a secluded harbor, the thrill of rounding the windward mark and setting the spinnaker, and the sense of awe at cruising through a group of blindingly bright offshore rigs in an otherwise pitch black night.
